Print Design

Physical print carries a weight that digital simply can't replicate. The feel of a well-produced book, the permanence of a thoughtfully designed annual report, the credibility of a publication that reflects an organization at its best. These are the things that endure. The projects here span the full range of what print can do: books, reports, magazines, catalogs, and beyond. Each one designed with the rigor, precision, and editorial sensibility the medium deserves.

Camaro ZL-1

Camaro hobbyist Bill Glowacki dreamed about writing a book someday, so it was only natural for him to write one about the 1969 Chevy Camaro ZL-1, a limited production performance car. It took Bill almost two years to complete his seven-pound, 280-page manuscript, chock full of original engineering drawings, specifications, dealer and distributor documents, and advertisements, many of them original hard copies in poor condition. In just two months, senior designer David Cox applied his design nous, InDesign touchup magic, and lots of love and passion, to convert the manuscript into a 248-page testament to the ZL-1.

Automotive Publishing
I was referred to Huston Design by my sister-in-law. I was impressed with their modest office space and laid-back atmosphere; it puts you at ease. I assumed they would simply touch up the manuscript, make it print-ready. First, they shared a cover design that sparked curiosity: all-black with just the title in orange foil. Inside, the use of color and relevant automotive artwork makes the reader want more, and it delivers. Even areas that are primarily text were done in a font style and page design that has a gritty, old-school appearance. The conversion and cleanup of old documents were done to perfection.

Throughout the project, communication was open and immediate. New ideas flowed. On time, on budget. The finished product exceeded expectations. I have no doubt yours will also!
